The Tassie Student Science Communicators Network (a.k.a. SciComm) is a student-led community passionate about making science accessible, engaging and impactful. Through hands-on workshops, networking events, field activities, panels, and collaborations with researchers, educators, journalists, conservationists, and industry leaders, we give students and young professionals practical opportunities to build communication skills and connect with the wider community.

Over the past year, we’ve hosted events with incredible speakers including whale scientist Dr Vanessa Pirotta, environmental educator Dr Lisa Cawthen, ABC Radio presenter Sabra Lane, astronaut Katherine Bennell-Pegg, science journalist Zoe Kean, and Antarctic governance expert Indi Hodgson-Johnston. From bat-detecting workshops and penguin spotlighting to science communication training, sustainability initiatives, trivia nights and climate action projects, our events are designed to inspire curiosity and confidence to foster connection. We believe that for science to create impact, it has to be communicated!

SciComm meets weekly on Tuesdays at Source (behind old TUSA building in Sandy Bay) for lunch and yaps!
