Student Advocacy Service

TUSA Student Advocates provide free advocacy and support services to all University of Tasmania students. TUSA Advocates are independent from the University, and our service is free and confidential. Whether you’re feeling stressed about something at University and need some advice or you’re confused about a process and would like further information, we are here to listen and help with any issue that may be impacting your studies. We offer phone, Zoom, and face-to-face appointments, and we can also provide support via email when needed. We are available for all students – so if you are a satellite or distance student, get in touch, and we will arrange something that suits you.

We offer a safe space for you to discuss your concern. Our Student Advocates are not lawyers, but we provide high-quality advocacy and welfare services. Nothing you say will be shared without your permission (unless our staff are bound by law to do so).

TUSA Student Advocates can help you by:

  • Listening
  • Providing free, independent, confidential advice
  • Explaining University rules and regulations
  • Guiding you through processes
  • Assisting with letters
  • Attending meetings when needed
  • Handling appeals
  • Providing information and referrals for students in financial stress

We do offer walk-in appointments whenever possible, but we cannot guarantee that someone will be available when you arrive.

You can make a booking right now through our online booking system.

If you prefer to call us or send an email to book, please use the details below, and someone will get back to you during business hours.

I have had the privilege of working as a Student Advocate for many years.  I am motivated by the knowledge that education can provide amazing opportunities, but the path to graduation is not always smooth.

Providing advocacy and welfare to students is an extremely rewarding and positive part of our work, particularly when we can assist disadvantaged student voices to be heard within the university community.  This can often create positive change for individuals and the greater university community.

You can reach me at the following phone number: 03 6226 2855.

As a Student Advocate, I look forward to assisting students. There are many challenges and unforeseen adversities that may arise during a student’s time at university. TUSA’s Student Promises reflect the important work underway to support those studying at university.

I feel privileged to be part of the TUSA team who are seeking to make a positive change in the lives of students. I have worked in well-being support, education-based roles, and within the performing arts. These are all areas that I am very passionate about and serve as a reminder that everyone’s experience is unique.

Life at university can get complicated and messy. At TUSA, we want to be able to help you regain your balance and experience the kind of student life that you hoped for. I have studied, researched, and worked in both education and support roles in Australia and overseas, and I have firsthand experience of just how crazy things can get.

We are here to listen, offer information and support, walk you through processes, and provide advocacy for you. Please don’t hesitate to come in and see us. We are here to assist you in any way we can.

When things aren’t going right for you at university, it can be a daunting experience to deal with.

From being a student at UTAS, as well as a prior elected representative, and now being able to advocate for you, my hope is that through my experience working throughout the systems I can make navigating the tough times easier to deal with. I look forward to being able stand by your side and assisting you however I can.
