Student Legal Service
The Student Legal Service is a free and confidential legal service available to all University of Tasmania students.
The Student Legal Service is supported by the Tasmanian University Student Association and Youth Law Australia. Youth Law Australia is a nationally accredited community legal centre.

How we can help
The legal service is staffed by qualified lawyers who are dedicated to providing legal assistance to students. Our areas of practice include:
- Education law
- Tenancy and student accommodation
- Employment
- Visa and migration
- Minor criminal law
- Fines / infringements
- Discrimination
- Consumer law
- Car and bike accidents
- Family violence / personal safety
- Sexual harassment and sexual assault
- Debt
- Intellectual property
For most enquiries, we will provide one-off legal advice, information and referrals to help you take action to resolve the legal problem yourself.
We can provide legal help by email, phone, video calls or in-person appointments at the TUSA office at 1 Churchill Avenue in Sandy Bay. We also conduct outreach to other University of Tasmania campuses throughout the year.
The Student Legal Service has also partnered with Dobson Mitchell Allport to provide a free monthly migration law clinic to students. Appointments are held on the last Wednesday of the month between 4pm and 6pm. If you are interested in an appointment, please contact the Student Legal Service.
